Very cool.. Yes I think Id enjoy trapping a bear too. I heard some Canadians talk about snaring them. They had a wonderful story about that ,,one I seem to tell over and over at the camp fires at conventions.

ive been thinking,,, thats a hard question. i love trapping every thing. but if i had to pic just one, although the hardest, workwize id say beaver. it is a ball getting them big ol tugboats, and about the only thing that gets thrown out is a legless, tailless, and headless torso, i use all the rest. even the backstraps yum.

1000 coon season!!!!! WOW!!!!
Where you from and you must be doing it full time.
What type sets you use mostly? Traps?

Yea mink are fun. Something mystical about them in my mind anyway. They are sneaky and sly but in a diferent way than a fox.

Hello DF PaulI trapped as a kid in NJ near Newark airpot-millions of rats and a lot of mink....then. Never been back could not imagine living there. Now in Pa I retired and started trapping 4 years ago. This my 5 season I have as much land animals as all then 4 previous years together. Just learning the canines and buying gear. Got three coyotes 38 to 48 pounds. The samller one was the wildest could not believe that the gear held. 1 3/4 3 coiled with berkshire stake attached with those split rings. I am learning the canines but look forward to what I do best-mink......jk

Was that in the Seacaucus swamp?
I know guys that made a living trapping it in the 1950's. I mean these guys would get thousands of 'rats!!
It was famous for the "Jersey Black 'Rat". Man the fur was soooo dark on those buggers!!!
I don't blame you about not wanting to go back there. I moved to central NYS about 25 yrs ago from North Jersey. It was the same year the last dairy farm went under in my home county. I told my wife if the farmers are gone so am I. And we went.
Glad you like the trapping in PA. esp the fox and 'yotes. They are my favorites.
You have a lot of mink where you are at?
I always liked the old Blake & Lamb #1 DLS in water sets for them.
What do you use?
Keep me posted will you as I haven't been able to trap the last couple years due to some health problems and I am living thru these trapping forums. I am planning on and will be healthy enough to be able to run a small line next season tho. Should work out fine.
Keep in touch will ya?
Paul

Mr. Dead fall, have had computer problems, would like to tell you I have been busy skinning but.... Well our bear season just finished and no bear for jk now is deer season. Been up a 4:30 got physical therapy exercises to do then hunt till 10:00 the fourty miles well really 30 miles of traps, got 35 set right now for fox coon-mainly mink and rats, then back out hunting, not real hunting but tree stand sitting, I have problems walking and distance. Pulled a lot of rat set due to it was really killing me and for 5 days had a visitor removing fur at least he did not take the traps. Right now three coyotes 10 grey one red 15 coon Been slow on coon compared to last year but some real dandys. I have learned how to flesh them and am proud of the final product but still can not do 2 completely in and hour from carcas to stretched, I read somewhere about using screen and a staple gun for the tails, it looks a lot better. I guess that is ok as I don't get many any way. Made two purchases of traps that I could not pass up so I have more traps than animals in the county. Hope you can get a few sets out, it really islike X-mas every day. Well hope the computer lasts, I think it is a modle #2 not very new Seasons best.....jk
